Job offers that loosen your wallet

When a job offer asks you for money first, the frame is loose. How to recognise and check these offers.

A real job pays you. An offer that asks you to pay first — for a kit, training, registration or stock — is selling something to you.

Signs to look for

  • An upfront fee of any kind before work begins.
  • High, exact earnings with no explanation of where they come from.
  • No company name, address or written contract.
  • Payment requested to a personal account.
  • Pressure to decide today.

What to do

  1. Ask for the company’s legal name and a written contract.
  2. Search the name with “complaint” or “scam”.
  3. Do not pay anything until those checks are done.

If you have already paid, keep the receipts, contact your bank and report it to your local consumer protection agency.
